A Small Goofy Showing

January 30, 2004

ROCKY MOUNT, NC — Willy Smalls, a golfer from North Carolina, has signed a national letter of intent to play in the 2004 Carl Spackler Open. Smalls signs as the 9th rookie, the last being Brandon Vickers also from North Carolina.

"I think Willy will make an immediate impact on our field," Captains Club Jamie Myers said. "He is going to play tough next year. He's mentally tough, and he works out two days a week. I'm looking forward to being on the same course as him."

The Carl Spackler Open begins its 2004 major on June 10. Tanglewood Park will host the Spacker tournament in Winston-Salem and currently has signed 34 players.

Smalls indicated that he is ready for this major. "I love this game. The fact that the field is made up of my friends gives me added incentive to enter the tournament. The thought of wearing the coveted Golden Jacket is nothing like I have ever dreamed possible.  But then again, I never inticipated wearing this ridiculous Goofy hat either."

Jay Dilks is also happy with Small?s attendance. "Willy is a strong player with huge credentials. I just hope that he selects me as his primary partner."
