Replay Round Cut to 9 Holes
June 6, 2025
STREETSBORO, OH — The Captains Club has announced a modified format for this year's optional Friday shamble, a staple event of the Carl Spackler Open. With course logistics in play, this year’s replay round will be limited to nine holes, offering a shorter, faster-paced twist on the familiar format.
"We have made a few updates to make things run smoother and keep the fun factor high,” said Captains Club member Marty Whalen. “The changes should help speed up play while still keeping the competition lively.”
In the revised shamble structure, each foursome pairing will act as one team. Within that team, players will split into two pairs, alternating roles to promote efficiency and inclusivity throughout the round.
Here’s how it will work:
Red Tees for All: All players will tee off from the red tees, simplifying club selection and pace of play.
Par 4s & 5s – Rotating Roles:
On the first Par 4 or Par 5, Group 1 tees off, followed by Group 2 taking the second shot. Then, all four players will finish the hole in a four-man scramble format.
On the next Par 4 or 5, the process reverses—Group 2 tees off, and Group 1 hits second, followed again by a full scramble to complete the hole.
Par 3s – Classic Scramble: All four players tee off and play the hole as a standard scramble.
Scoring Cap: The maximum score allowed on any hole is bogey, helping keep the pace brisk.
Pairings: Teams will head out in paired foursomes, ensuring a social and engaging atmosphere.
Due to regular tee times scheduled immediately after the tournament round, the replay shamble will only cover nine holes this year. Despite the shortened format, the changes promise an enjoyable and fast-moving afternoon of team golf.
Get ready for a light-hearted, strategic nine-hole battle during the 2025 Carl Spackler Open’s replay round—where fun, pace, and friendly competition come together.
