Ruth Relives Spackler

July 7, 2003

WARREN, PA — Brian Long, placing 16th of 32 players in his first Carl Spackler Open decided this past weekend to relive Spackler the only way he could without returning to Thunder Hill.   He reached into his dirty clothes pile from the tournament weekend and put his wrinkled and wet shorts back on.

"I could feel the monsoon even though it was sunny and hot in Warren", said Ruthie.  "The pants really helped me catch on fire at Blueberry and a 42 stroke back nine."  Brian Long has only posted a 41 once in his life and was very happy with his 2nd best nine ever.

When asked whether he would wash his shorts before playing again, he replied, "I don't know.  Maybe."  Brian Long shot 45, 42 at Blueberry on Sunday.  It is everyday that Brian Long shoots in the 80's.  But then again, it isn't everyday someone can play in dirty shorts that have been rolled up in a ball for 30 days.
